LEGO History — Rorke’s Drift

A14491730834_f173e719c1_os well as all the cool fantastical stuff that people come up with and the architecture builds, you also get some historical dioramas built out of LEGO.

Like this recreation of the battle of Rorke’s Drift in which approximately 150 British and Colonial troops held out against 3,000 — 4,000 Zulu warriors. An impressive feat by anyone’s standards and immortalized on film Zulu starring Michael Caine (watch it, it’s great). Now you can certainly argue that 1) The British had no business being there in the first place (do you have a flag?) and 2) They behaved in a beastly fashion both before and after. But as a singular moment in history it is impressive.

And I’d say this diorama does a good job of giving you the scale of the battle. Pay attention to those “straw” roofs by the way  They were actually built out of arms. Click through to Flickr for more images.
